Yo, this question is aimed at other martial artists.
I’m doing Wing Chun right now and a friend of mine plans to start Hapkido soon. I’m very interested in Hapkido and would love to start. You think its possible? I know its all on the practitioner, but im curious on what you guys got to say. Thanks !

I would definitely encourage you to take up a new martial art. Lots of people cross-train in different arts to become more well-rounded. Wing Chun and Hapkido are very different arts and practicing both would make you a more complete martial artist.
If you’ve got the time and money for it, why not?

Yes, I usually take multiple martial arts at a time. I used to take Chung Do Kwan, Hapkido, Maharlika Kuntaw, and Aikido. But after a while I found the perfect martial art and I quit them all to study it.

It’s certainly possible. I would actually recommend looking into John Pelligrini’s “Combat Hapkido”, as it uses Wing Chun-style trapping more than your traditional Hapkido… after you’ve got a solid base in your current two systems, of course.

yeah go ahead and do both but it might be harder for you near the beggining because they both do punches and kicks slighhtly differently so you will have to learn things in different ways.

Yes it is not a problem, they both deal with different ranges of combat Wing Chun is mostly trapping range, while Hapkido will help your kicking range and standing grappling range

absolutely, very doable. I do Kyokushin and bjj. It’s a nice balance. But for some reasons I go to Kyokushin karate more (and I get hurt there more)..maybe I like pain, maybe I’m crazy…OSU
